Hi there. I run an online business selling desktop PCs, and we offer all the computers in our range either without an operating system, or we can install Ubuntu, sometimes for free, otherwise for a small charge. I would appreciate being part of your list!

    Cheers, Ed.

    Hello,

There is a company that sells desktops and laptops with PCLinuxOS installed. They also sell components such as motherboards and cases etc. The website is: http://linpc.us/

  7. Gordon says:

How about eracks.com? I have not used them, but they appear to be a viable alternative.

  8. ilakast says:

http://www.misco.de sells laptops with linux installed, for example http://bit.ly/15GzQb

Recently bought a naked (and petite!) server PC from Tranquil PC. They’re an outfit based in Manchester specializing in low-power “green” PCs. While most of their range ship with Windows you can buy almost any of their models sans OS. For example, here’s their “barebones server” which always ships “naked”:

    http://www.tranquilpc-shop.co.uk/acatalog/BAREBONE_SERVERS.html

And here’s their little fanless Atom N270 based PCs (note the OS dropdown box defaults to “None” :-) :

    http://www.tranquilpc-shop.co.uk/acatalog/T3N.html

They used to offer a box with Ubuntu installed by default but dropped that a while back (I guess that most of their customers who want Linux on their machine wish to install it themselves to customize the installation in some fashion).

  10. mike says:

you can always just install whatever os you want after buying a computer. or go to ANY local shop that will sell you one without an os.

its not like this is an issue. frankly if you are knowledgeable enough to install your own non windows os, then you probably want something better than a dell anyway.

meaning this argument is kinda pointless.

GGS Data is selling computers preloaded with Ubuntu (but could just as easily be delivered empty upon request)

it is one thing to state that the os of your choice is up to you but there are no universal drivers for printers, modems, sound cards, svga etc. there needs in those areas to be an alternative to windows or specific debian drivers for the on board hardware. do your tryable systems consider this? add the answer to

Alloi Computers seem to have a large range of barebones options. I’ve never used them so I don’t know what their services and products are like. You will find their web site here: http://www.alloi-computers.co.uk/

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/

Overclockers sell systems without operating systems. I have one. It was easy to install Ubuntu.

What I would like to find is someone selling laptops or netbooks without an operating system.

Lemote endorsed by RMS – and in my opinion excellent customer service.

  16. Alloi Computers do stock a large range of barebones systems, we are even due to get stock of laptops with blueray drives in the next few weeks!

If we don’t list what you want, give us a call, we try to be as helpfulas possible.

We will more than happily pre-install any OS of your choice on request.

    Hi,

For the stores where we can find bare computers in France, the non for profit April association has pointed to a page of the site Aful where there is a list of said “good and bad vendors”, where a number of them are classified under criteria that match some requirements for the use with GNU/Linux distributions.
