Mecer PC have a rather unusual entry procedure to their website, but once you have signed your life away by agreeing to their terms and conditions (which amongst other things prohibits you from doing a view-source!) they do have naked desktops and also several examples of the elusive naked laptop.

Misco are a large international supplier, but this relates specifically to their German website where a laptop with linux pre-installed has been spotted.

Infinity Computer Group have a range of desktops and laptops which can be ordered without operating system. The website isn’t that obvious about it, however they have confirmed that they are totally OK with people specifying a naked system.

Pioneer Computers have a wide range of laptops, desktops and servers, all available in the buff. If you don’t select an operating system they ask you to make a comment, I suggest “stark naked please”.

Cyber Power have some good looking performance desktops and a selection of laptops that can be undressed. Curiously there is no overclocking available on the naked option. Anyone know why that is?

XXODD is a dutch site with a fine range of laptops and desktops, particularly good for peformance PCs. In the “Configureer” screen “Geen Operating System” (starkers) is selected by default.

Ebuyer is a long established UK web-based discount dealer. Always has many OS-free machines on offer in the “desktop” and “server” categories. Also sells machines with Linux installed. Here’s their current cheapest desktop by way of an example: “Extra Value Business Desktop, Celeron E1400 2.0GHz, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, DVDRW, Card Reader, Keyboard and Mouse, NO OS, £198.37 inc vat & free delivery”.

Another 61 pence will secure you a somewhat faster machine with Ubuntu already installed.

PC Village is a bricks and mortar chain of store based in Toronto, Canada with six outlets across Southern Ontario. I have purchased over a dozen computer from them over the last 10 years for myself and others, from Desktops to Server units. All systems can be customized and there is no problem at all buying a bare system, either for Linux or a previous purchased OS from a computer being replaced.

I rate them an A+ for price, service and support. All systems come with a one year warrantee, on top of any factory warantees on the components. I have never had any problems getting service, even on systems several years old.
