Tranquil PC

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Tranquil PC are an outfit based in Manchester specializing in low-power “green” PCs. While most of their range ship with Windows you can buy almost any of their models sans OS including their “barebones server” which always ships “naked” And here’s their little fanless Atom N270 based PCs (note the OS dropdown box defaults to “None” :-) . They used to offer a box with Ubuntu installed by default but dropped that a while back.

Taylored Systems provide a range of desktop systems with a selection of operating system which isn’t well defined on their website, but they assure us it includes full frontal nakedness. They have three real world stores in the Isle of Wight and Lincolnshire.

fit-PC2

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

fit-PC2 is a small low power fanless computer based on the Intel Atom processor. It might make a good MythTV front end. There are three naked configurations available, an Ubuntu option and some proprietary OS that you don’t want.

Esdelle

Esdelle will build you a custom PC to order with the operating system of your choice, or more to my taste, none at all. They are based in Torbay and provide a 20 mile on-site warranty and ship anywhere in the UK

ElpaTech

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

ElpaTech build a range of desktop PCs from basic to gaming. They have the naked PC as the default configuration and price and they have this to say about it:

The Allegro Forte does not come with an operating system pre-installed (sometimes referred to as a “naked PC”). This allows you to install whatever operating system you please. The operating system is the software that you use to interact with your computer; examples include Windows XP, Windows Vista and Ubuntu.

Top marks!

They don’t do laptops, but recommend Novatech, who are one of our few suppliers of naked laptops.

Cram Computers

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Cram Computers have a store in the real world (well, in Scunthorpe at least) the website doesn’t look that promising, however I am assured that nakedness is very much an option in-store. They have a second site at www.cc24.co.uk where bare PCs are on display.

Cyber Power

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Cyber Power have some good looking performance desktops and a selection of laptops that can be undressed. Curiously there is no overclocking available on the naked option. Anyone know why that is?
